If it’s day time and you see a cockroach in your home, you could have a major problem on your hands. These pests are nocturnal and are only out and about in the daytime if they are overcrowded and forced out!

Cockroaches live, eat, and reproduce in the dark. For every one that you see, there are most likely many more of them hiding and multiplying behind your walls. Your home is the perfect breeding ground, providing food, warmth, water, and nesting sites. It is possible for them to remain active year-round.

An infestation of cockroaches brings with it unpleasant odors with a strong oily, musty smell.

Sometimes you can hear them too, perhaps a clicking or chirping noise.

The most common varieties have a lot in common: six spiny legs, two antennae about the length of their bodies and often swept back, flattened bodies, and broad shield-like structures on their backs covering most of their head. Some have developed wings, but most aren’t adept to do much with them.

They are quick moving, mostly solitary pests preferring very tight quarters. They love to have both their upper and lower body surfaces touching some part of their environment.

Cockroaches are a danger to us in a variety of ways.

First of all, they can carry diseases. Along with their excrement and salivary secretions comes bacterial contamination as they move through our utensils and food. This can result in food poisoning, dysentery, and diarrhea. Their excrement, molted skins, and droppings can aggravate allergies and asthma attacks. If their population increases to the point where food becomes scarce, then they may nibble on us!

Although unlikely, it is possible and they prefer the fingernails, eyelashes, feet, and hands. This can create lesions, swelling, and infections, as well as the spread of disease. They are difficult to prevent. If you suspect cockroaches are residing in your home, call upon the professionals to put an end to this problem.
