What should you do if you find bed bugs?
Save the insect or take a clear photo, leave furniture in place, avoid spraying or fogging, and contact a bed bug specialist for identification and an inspection. Do not throw away your mattress or move bedding to another room. A complete inspection helps determine what needs treatment.
Speak with Hi-Tech Pest Control: 248-569-8001Your first steps after finding a bed bug
You do not need to dismantle your home or buy a cart full of products. Start with evidence, a phone call and a clear plan.
Photograph or collect it
Take a sharp, close photograph. If possible, keep the insect in a closed clear container or sealed bag for identification. Write down where and when you found it.
Leave furniture in place
Do not carry a mattress, couch or recliner into another room, hallway or garage. Avoid relocating pillows, blankets and bags from the area.
Call before you prepare
Tell us your city, what you found, where you found it and whether anyone has already treated. We will explain inspection availability and the next steps for your home.
Is it really a bed bug—and where should you look?
Look for evidence around resting areas
Bed bugs can hide near both beds and living room seating. Look at accessible mattress seams, box spring edges, bed frame joints, headboards, couch folds and recliner seams. A flashlight can help with a visual check.
Live insects, pale eggs, shed skins and dark spotting are useful clues. Marks on a sheet or a skin reaction alone do not tell you how extensive the problem is.
See the signs of a bed bug infestationOne sighting deserves attention
Finding one bed bug does not reveal the size or age of an infestation. The first one you notice may have been hidden before you saw it.
Have the insect identified and the surrounding areas checked. Do not assume every room is infested—or assume the problem ends with the insect you caught.
Learn what a bed bug inspection involvesWhat not to do when you find bed bugs
Do not replace the furniture first
Discarding a bed does not eliminate bugs in a recliner, couch, frame or nearby hiding place. You could lose usable furniture and still have the original problem. Hi-Tech’s approach focuses on treating and salvaging the furniture you already own.
Do not chase the problem with products
A spray that kills a visible insect has not necessarily reached the hidden infestation. Foggers do not reliably reach cracks and crevices. Avoid adding sprays, dusts, steam or rented heating equipment before discussing your treatment plan with us.
Do not move your sleeping area
Moving to the couch and bringing your bedding with you can transfer insects. Call for guidance before changing sleeping locations or taking belongings to another home.
Do not begin whole-home bagging
Do not empty closets or bag every possession on your own. Follow our specific preparation directions so you complete the work needed without unnecessary handling or expense.
Do not wait for a large infestation
Once a bed bug is confirmed, arrange an assessment. Waiting for repeated sightings gives an unresolved problem more time to develop.
A complete approach to your home
How Hi-Tech Pest Control handles bed bugs
Hi-Tech Pest Control has served Southeast Michigan since 1986. Our bed bug service is built around one complete application, with attention to the furniture and concealed areas where activity can be missed.
Entire-home scope
We do not offer partial treatments. The plan includes the entire home and every sitting and sleeping item, rather than treating only the room where a bug was seen.
Furniture access and salvage
Our work addresses furniture seams, folds, undersides and other hiding areas. Cleaning and salvage are central to our approach. We do not use mattress encasements as our treatment method.
Clear expectations
You receive preparation and aftercare instructions, plus a six-month warranty under your written agreement. Complete preparation is required for the planned service.
Already treated by someone else?
Tell us what was done and what is happening now. We inspect the complete situation, including beds, box springs, couches and recliners, to assess unresolved activity.
Read why bed bug treatments can failPreparation with a purpose
Wait for your appointment instructions before starting. Your assigned preparation may include:
- Remove bed clothes and pillows for laundering as directed.
- Clear items from underneath beds without scattering them through the home.
- Move breakables off nightstands and away from treatment access areas.
- Unhook connected sectional pieces when instructed and safe to do so.
- Ask how to handle existing mattress and box spring covers.
Do not remove hanging closet clothes or start bagging everything unless instructed. Complete all assigned preparation before your service.

Your quote should reflect the actual work: home size, furniture, activity, access and preparation needs. Hi-Tech evaluates the complete job before quoting.
Consider the cost of replacing furniture, repeated product purchases, laundry and the time spent on attempts that do not resolve the infestation. Call before making expensive decisions about your belongings.

Discuss your home: 248-569-8001Renters and property managers
Notify your landlord or property manager promptly in writing. Include the date, location and photographs of what you found. Ask who will arrange an inspection and whether surrounding units need evaluation.
Keep furniture out of common areas and coordinate treatment authorization. A multi-unit property needs a plan that considers more than the single place where an insect appeared.
After your Hi-Tech treatment
Follow the technician’s instructions for reentry, cleaning and normal use of the home. Do not add pesticides or alter treated areas without asking us.
Our service agreement asks you to allow 4–6 weeks for all activity, including bites and sightings, to stop. Keep specific observations and contact us with questions so we can guide you.
Answers to common questions after finding bed bugs
Choose a question for a direct answer, then call if you need guidance for your home.
I found one bed bug. Does that mean there are more?
One confirmed bed bug is enough reason to arrange an inspection. It may be a recently introduced insect or evidence of a larger hidden population. The number you see does not tell you how many are present. Save the insect and have the surrounding furniture inspected.
What do bed bugs look like?
Adult bed bugs are small, oval and reddish brown, with a flattened body before feeding. Young bed bugs are smaller and lighter in color. Eggs are tiny and pale. A clear photograph or collected specimen helps distinguish bed bugs from look-alike insects.
Can I have bed bugs without seeing them?
Yes. Bed bugs can remain concealed in seams, folds, joints and the undersides of furniture. If you are waking with unexplained skin reactions, seek an inspection rather than waiting for frequent sightings. Skin reactions can have several causes, so an insect identification and inspection help determine whether bed bug treatment is appropriate.
Where should I look first?
Start with mattress seams, box spring edges, the headboard and bed frame. Also check the seams, folds, cushions and accessible undersides of couches and recliners. Do not assume the bed is the source simply because the insects are called bed bugs. Avoid lifting heavy furniture alone.
Do bed bugs jump, fly or live on people?
Bed bugs crawl; they do not jump or fly. They usually hide near places where people rest rather than living continuously on a person. They can hitchhike in belongings, which is why moving bedding or furniture without a plan can carry them elsewhere.
Should I throw away my mattress, couch or recliner?
Call before discarding anything. Replacing furniture does not treat bed bugs elsewhere in the home. Hi-Tech Pest Control focuses on treating, cleaning and salvaging existing furniture. Let us inspect its condition and explain what can be retained before you spend money on replacements.
Should I sleep on the couch or stay with family?
Avoid switching sleeping areas as a way to escape bed bugs. Moving pillows, blankets and bags can transfer insects to another location. Call for advice about your situation. If you must leave, ask how to prepare clothing and belongings so you reduce the risk of carrying insects with you.
Will laundry or vacuuming solve the infestation?
Laundry and careful vacuuming can remove or kill some bed bugs, but they do not reach every hiding place. Washing alone may not kill all stages. Ask for instructions for the items involved, follow fabric care labels, and contain suspect laundry during transport. Do not treat a clean load as proof the furniture or home is clear.
Should I use sprays, alcohol or bug bombs?
Do not start spraying or fogging while waiting for your inspection. Products that miss hidden insects leave the infestation unresolved, and incorrect use can create exposure or fire hazards. Never spray rubbing alcohol on furniture or bedding. Tell the technician exactly what has already been applied and where.
Should I bag everything and empty my closets?
No. Do not begin bagging the entire home or removing hanging clothes from closets without instructions. Hi-Tech provides a specific preparation plan. Preparation may include laundering bed clothes and pillows, clearing underneath beds, protecting breakable items and making furniture accessible.
Do I need mattress or box spring encasements?
Hi-Tech Pest Control does not use encasements as part of its bed bug treatment. We need access to the furniture itself. If covers are already installed, ask for instructions before removing them; we will explain how to handle and launder them during preparation.
How fast do bed bugs spread?
There is no reliable room-by-room timetable for every home. Population growth and movement depend on feeding opportunities, temperature, hiding places and the movement of belongings. A newly noticed insect does not date the start of the problem. Prompt identification helps you act before more belongings become involved.
What if I live in an apartment or rental home?
Notify the landlord or property manager promptly in writing, keep a record of what you found and ask for an inspection plan. Nearby units may also need inspection. Responsibility for arranging and paying for service depends on the property and applicable requirements; coordinate authorization before treatment.
Can I carry bed bugs to work, my car or another home?
Yes, insects can travel in bags, clothing, furniture and other belongings. Avoid taking suspect items from resting areas into other locations. Ask us for practical handling instructions for work clothes, bags and necessary travel. Having bed bugs does not mean every item you own is infested.
Does having bed bugs mean my home is dirty?
No. Bed bugs feed on blood and can be introduced into clean homes as well as cluttered ones. Clutter can make inspection and access harder, but cleanliness alone does not prevent an introduction. Focus on identification and a complete treatment plan rather than blame.
How much does professional bed bug treatment cost?
Hi-Tech quotes the complete job after evaluating the home, furniture, extent of activity, access and preparation needs. We do not offer a partial bedroom-only treatment as a substitute for treating the entire home. Call for a quote based on your situation rather than an advertised starting price that may not fit the work.
How many treatments does Hi-Tech Pest Control perform?
Our service is built around one complete application, with the entire home and every sitting and sleeping item included in the treatment plan. Customers must complete all assigned preparation. We explain the scope, access requirements and post-treatment instructions before work begins.
What does the six-month warranty mean?
Hi-Tech provides a six-month bed bug warranty with its service. Your written agreement explains the coverage and customer responsibilities. Our treatment plan is one complete application; the warranty is not a schedule of repeated routine treatments.
What should I expect after treatment?
Follow the reentry and cleaning directions provided for your home. Our agreement asks customers to allow 4–6 weeks for all activity, including bites and sightings, to stop. Contact Hi-Tech with specific observations rather than adding sprays or changing the treatment plan yourself.
What if another company already treated my home?
Tell us when the work was done, what was treated, which furniture was inspected and what activity continues. Have any service paperwork available. Hi-Tech handles unresolved infestations and evaluates the complete home rather than assuming the remaining problem is confined to the last place a bug was seen.
Can I get an inspection or treatment today?
Call 248-569-8001 with your city and what you found. We will confirm current inspection and treatment availability, explain preparation and help you choose the next step. An appointment depends on the schedule and the work required; call rather than assuming a time is reserved.
