Bed Bugs and Carpet Beetle reactions can have indistinguishable markings and both pests can produce an appearance that can be similar. Carpet Beetle Larvae will cause rashes that look like bites. Waking up with Carpet Beetle rash can easily be mistaken for Bed Bug bites so don’t panic. Mistaking Carpet Beetles for Bed Bugs can lead to expensive bed bug treatment and possible defeat because each pest is targeted differently. Carpet Beetles do not search for humans and blood meals and that is why they are usually in couches and not in beds, they will stay in couches foraging for food and moisture left behind in the couch. Bed Bugs have plenty of time to get blood meals in bedrooms were humans will spend an average of 4 or more hours in beds and that is primarily where you will find them. Vacuuming cracks and crevices, carpet, furniture is the first step in eradicating Carpet Beetles. Steam cleaning might make it worse by raising the moisture if you are not thorough enough to get to all of the harborages and places where they are populating because moisture is important to them to mature and reproduce.
